EMERGENCY INFORMATION  2007-08

School bus transportation may be modified due to hazardous weather conditions.  In the event of severe weather school may be shortened, or even be cancelled.  These modifications are made to ensure safety of students and staff. 

ANNOUNCEMENTS will be broadcasted before school on the following stations:

KISM - 92.9 FM Bellingham KLKI - 1340 AM Anacortes KOMO - 1000 AM Seattle KAFE - 104.3 FM Bellingham

KGMI - 790 AM -   Bellingham

KOMO TV 4 - Seattle

KING TV 5 - Seattle

If school must be closed mid-day, this will also be announced on the Radio/TV and students will be sent  home by their usual mode of transportation.  If bus routes have to be modified, it will be announced.

OPTION LEVEL OUTLINE

The following announcement options may be broadcast if weather conditions become unusual:

LEVEL I   SCHOOLS ARE OPEN:  If no announcement is heard on the Radio / TV, please assume that school will be open as usual.  Bus drivers will attempt to run regular routes.  Buses may be late due to slower speed.

 

LEVEL II  SCHOOLS ARE OPEN / SNOW ROUTES:  Schools are open on normal schedule.  Buses may be slower due to road conditions and rerouting and will not travel on the following roads:

LEVEL III  SCHOOLS ARE OPEN ON LATE START SCHEDULE:  Schools, including kindergarten, will run on the typical “Wednesday Late Start” schedule commencing at 9:45 a.m.  Buses will run snow routes as listed above.

 

LEVEL IV  SCHOOLS ARE OPEN ON LATE START SCHEDULE / NO BUS TRANSPORTATION:  Schools, including kindergarten, will run on the typical “Wednesday Late Start” schedule commencing at 9:45 a.m.  However, students must be transported by parents.  If road conditions appear unsafe for car travel, parents are advised to keep their children at home.

 

LEVEL V  SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED:  When road conditions are too hazardous for both buses and cars, school will be closed.  School can also be closed as a result of an extended power failure.

 

PLEASE NOTE:  The bus routes listed above will be in effect for both morning and afternoon routes.  Bus drivers have been instructed not to drop students off if the drivers have doubts about the students’ ability to reach home safely.  Such students will be returned to school.  If your child is not picked up in the morning or does not reach home in the afternoon, please notify the school (Elementary 378-5209, Middle School 378-5214, High School 378-5215, District Office 378-4133.)    Please contact the school if your child does not reach home as planned.
