As I saw a bald eagle swoop down to catch something in a pond this afternoon, I was reminded of the strength and courage this beautiful regal bird represents. In this ongoing time of COVID-19, many of you may look for symbols of strength and courage. Our island community is a caring community.
I hope this newsletter finds everyone, safe, healthy, and happy. My staff and I are certainly happy to have students from Kindergarten through 5th grade back on campus. Of course, we also continue to accommodate our teleschool students with rigorous education as well as social-emotional learning support.
February 1 marks the start of Black History Month. A time to reflect and pay tribute to the generations of African Americans who were subjected to some of the worst forms of dehumanization.
February 1 also marks the first day of the second semester. Yes, we made it through the first half of the school year! A time of anxiety and reassurances; of hopes and disappointments; of laughter and sadness. We made it through it all, and we did it together.
