Degrees and Certifications:
Sam Garson has been involved in education for the last 10 years. He began his career in Miami-Dade Public Schools as a substitute teacher and then decided to pursue teaching full time by getting his Master’s degree and teaching in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Sam began his full-time teaching career at Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, WA. Prior to teaching at Friday Harbor High School, Sam was working with Dr. Robert Ballard’s Ocean Exploration Trust, helping to engage students, teachers and the general public in the excitement of ocean exploration through www.nautiluslive.org. Sam is extremely excited about the opportunity to help share his passion for science with the students at Friday Harbor and show them how interconnected their world and the sciences truly are.
When not teaching Sam spends his time with his wife, 2-year-old son, puppy and their two cats. Cooking, being outdoors and being on or under the water are the best bets for what Sam is doing when not in the classroom. He is excited about settling into life on the island and exploring his new home.
