Mr. Timothy Dwyer
BA Biology and Environmental Studies, Bowdoin College
MS Biology, Northeastern University
MA Teaching, Central Washington University
Tim teaches chemistry, physics, marine biology, and oceanography, drawing heavily on his background as an experiential educator and marine ecologist to illustrate the process of science to his students. He developed a foundational interest in science education, working with students aboard traditional sailing vessels with Living Classrooms Foundation in Maryland and Ocean Classroom Foundation in Maine. He expanded on this interest as a Marine Science Instructor with the Catalina Island Marine Institute in southern California, where he reveled in exploring temperate subtidal community ecology with middle and high school students. A native of Baltimore, Tim holds a BA in Biology and Environmental Studies from Bowdoin College, an MS in Biology (Research) from Northeastern University, an MA in Teaching from Central Washington University and is an alumnus of the Sea Education Association's Sea Semester program. When not teaching at Friday Harbor High School, he enjoys scuba diving, cycling, swimming, and exploring in the San Juan Islands and beyond.
