STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The acronym STEM was not invented by educators. It was created as short hand to speed processing of work visas for immigrants with skills in these fields. Last year, with all our unemployment, there were 250,000 STEM jobs unfilled because the American school system is not preparing students for these jobs. These are well paying jobs too.
