  • Title I reading after-school program | Programa de lectura después de la escuela de Título I

Posted by Susan Stehn on 4/30/2021

    Dear Eagle Families,

Our school started an after-school Title I reading intervention program last week. Parents of students recommended by classroom teachers to participate were informed first.

We still have capacity for an additional 20 - 25 students. If you are interested in having your child participate, please call our office.

The program uses the web-based literacy program Fast ForWord and is supervised by teachers and paraeducators. They meet in the lunchroom on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, from 3:00 - 4:00. Participating students must bring their own Chromebooks, fully charged. With advance notice, bus transportation may be available.

    Thank you.

    Estimadas familias Eagle,

    Gracias.

  • Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing / Prueba de Medidas de Progreso Académico (MAP)

Posted by Susan Stehn on 4/29/2021

    Dear Eagle Families,

Our elementary school uses the Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment to see how the students grow in the academic areas of Reading and Math. The outcomes are informative for staff, students, and you. In other years, that assessment was administered in the Fall and Spring. This year, it will only be the Spring assessment.

The assessment window is from May 3 - May 19. Your student will spend approximately 50 minutes on each assessment (i.e., Reading and Math). Your classroom teacher will let you know what day(s) the assessment will take place. Students will be asked to bring their Chromebooks to school, fully charged.

Because the MAP must be given in a school-controlled - and supervised environment, teleschool students will not take the assessment. If you have a teleschool student and you would like your child to take the assessment, please contact the school so arrangements can be made to accommodate you.

    Thank you.

    Estimadas familias Eagle,

    Gracias.

  • FHES Spirit Wear

Posted by Susan Stehn on 4/5/2021

    Hello families -
There are a limited number of youth raglan t-shirts for purchase in the elementary office - XS, S, M, L, and XL - for $15 each. Staff wear these shirts too, it's a fun way to all show our school spirit and belonging on Fridays.

If your child is interested please stop by the office with cash or check to pick one out.

I would also like to encourage you to return any gently used but outgrown shirts or sweatshirts from years past. We will make these available to students who otherwise could not purchase spirit wear.

    Thank you!

    Dear FHES Parents,

You are receiving this informational message as a routine notification when the County Health Department (CHD) contacts the school district for contact tracing due to COVID-19.

It has been determined that a student who attends a FHES has tested positive for COVID-19. The CHD is currently tracing the student's contacts. The student's cohort and the teacher are quarantined until further guidance from the CHD. For all other hybrid cohorts and staff, school will continue as usual.

Our school district is committed to working in close collaboration with the County Health Department around COVID-19. Additional information regarding school protocols involving COVID-19 may be reviewed in the San Juan Island School District Reopening Handbook, located on our website under the section labeled COVID-19 Information Portal.

Please follow the instructions on the envelope and help your child earn prizes and money for the classroom. Send the envelope back to school with your student as soon as possible.

Participation is not required, but greatly appreciated.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Health Notice

Posted by Susan Stehn on 2/8/2021

    Dear Eagle Families,

It has been established that a student who attends Friday Harbor Elementary School has possibly been exposed to COVID-19. This student is in the first grade.

The student may have been contagious since Wednesday February 3rd. There were no students in school on that day and the student was absent from school on Thursday, February 4th, and Friday, February 5th. This student has not been in school during the presumed contagious period.

    Quarantine is underway.

At this time, the San Juan County Health Department has completed contact tracing within the school to rule out any possibility of spread. It is the school district’s policy to work in close collaboration with the health department around COVID-19.

Additional information regarding school protocols involving COVID may be reviewed in the San Juan Island School District Reopening Handbook, located on our website under the section labeled COVID Information Portal. https://www.sjisd.wednet.edu/domain/573
