Disabilities & College

  • Whether or not you have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan, students with disabilities can access post-high school education.

All community or 4 year colleges have an Office of Disability Access or a similarly named department that can provide accommodations.

However, IEPs and 504 plans do not exist in college and do not automatically transfer to post-secondary institutions.

You must approach your college's Office of Disability Access and request accommodations. They will need documentation of your disability. Your IEP or 504 plan can serve as documentation.

Accommodations look different at college, so you may not be granted the same accommodations you have in high school.

Some colleges offer programs specifically made for students with disabilities. Please see the Academic Support Programs tab for a non-exhaustive list of programs.
